Top 5 Reasons to Have a First Look
WHAT IS A FIRST LOOK?
In order to make a decision on whether or not to have a first look, you have to understand what it is. A first look is a modern tradition involving a one-on-one photo session between the bride and groom. With first looks, couples see each other for the first time prior to the ceremony. It’s typically a private moment captured alone between the bride and groom. The first look captures the emotion and first moment of seeing one another. Here are my top 5 reasons why you should make a first look a part of your special day.
Reason Number One: Looking Your Best at the Beginning of the Day
The first look is perfect in many ways, the first of which has to do with you looking your best. Typically the bride and groom are fresh out of makeup and hair and getting dressed. If it is a hot day you can get your photos out of the way early. That means you can avoid getting sweaty, which definitely translates to better photos.
Reason Number Two: A Stress Free Moment
First looks allow for a private one-on-one moment between the bride and groom before the hustle and bustle of the wedding day starts. The moment can captured in private, before guests and family arrive and allow the bride and groom to calm their nerves and get the pre-wedding jitters out of the way early. It also allows for an ice-breaking moment between the wedding couple and the wedding photographer, especially if you did not get the chance to meet prior to the wedding day.
Reason Number Three: Time is On Your Side
Let’s face it, wedding days are hectic, stressful and often run behind schedule. There are many things that can cause your wedding day run over schedule. Those things include transportation issues, hair and makeup, lateness of wedding party members and traffic issues to name a few. Unfortunately, this fatness can have a negative impact on the quality and quantity of photos you will receive. if you planned on having all of your photos taken during cocktail hour, fatness prior to that time can cut down on that time significantly. Sometimes venues are unable to extend the cocktail hour or delay meal service and the wedding photographer is left with the responsibility of obtaining the best photos possible. That puts a lot of stress on not only the photographer, but the wedding couple as well.
Reason Number Four: Spend More Time with Guests and Join the Party
Having to run around during your entire cocktail hour taking photos with your wedding party and family can suck up a lot of that hour. That can leave the wedding couple with a very short period of time to capture wedding portraits. If key family members go missing or you have an uncooperative or intoxicated wedding party, that can also slow down the process quite a bit. And one of the best reasons for having a first look is the wedding couple being able to actually join and enjoy the celebration with friends and family.
Reason Number Five: You Get Better and More Photos
I know I am partial in making this statement, but other than your wedding venue, I can not think of a wedding professional that has a more important role on your special day. All the time, money, effort, details and memories created on a wedding day… Are just that; memories! Without a good photographer, you will not be able to relive that day or have it captured properly. Investing in a skilled professional photographer who is efficient and talented will be able to capture more images. First looks allow photographers to be more creative and work in a more stress-free time frame, which ultimately allows the wedding couple to have a better experience.
